Christmas Party

Christmas is an exciting month at Tracie’s Treasures. We love doing various activities and making gifts for our families. This year we have had to make changes due to the pandemic.

Father Christmas normally comes to give us gifts and treats but we wanted to keep him safe. We celebrated this year by sending him our photos, emailed him our Christmas lists and he sent Tracie our gifts by Reindeers to pass onto us.

Creative Afternoon

The boys came home from school in a creative mood. Jacey had been learning about Romans in history class, this gave him the idea to make a sword and shield. On his shield he has a dragons face to scare fighters away and a sword for protection. We took a picture and added it to his class twitter page for all to see.

Mason was funny building a block wall that he could hide behind. Would have worked better if the wall wasn’t see through!

Mason also created a whole family using the Mr Potato head bodies and clothing parts. He said they should all star in the next Toy Story film.

Arrival of the Worms

Last month we all set up our new Wormery and sent off a coupon for the worms to be sent to us. It took a few weeks for them to arrive, so while we waited we saved up all our fruit and vegetable peelings for them to eat.

On delivery day, Tracie carefully opened the package and we all peered into the box to see hundreds of very wriggly worms. Ivor and Tracie were the only ones to pick one up carefully. The worm wriggled and tickled!

We all went outside and opened up the Wormery at the bedding tray. Tracie gently poured all the worms in and we carefully closed the tray but quickly, so they wouldn’t escape and to keep them in the dark as they don’t like sunlight.

We all went and washed our hands, then sat down while Tracie read us the story Yucky Worms (by Vivian French) that taught us all about worms.

Mystic Pizza

Today Martha and Ivor asked nicely for Pizza. Unfortunately we didn’t have any, so Martha thought it would be good to make one from scratch! This is how they did it…

Both children said it was so tasty, Tracie couldn’t try it because they wanted to eat the lot! Cheeky Monkeys!

Martha the Glittery Unicorn

Martha made a lovely mask of a Unicorn. Martha spent a lot of time carefully colouring between the lines and adding some green and gold glitter.

Martha’s Lego Measuring Stick

Martha made a very tall measuring stick out of chunky Lego blocks. She made it to be as tall as she is then counted each brick. 58 blocks!

When Martha comes back in the holidays she is going to make a new measuring stick to see how much she has grown.

Our Mini Pond Habitats

This summer the children have been helping us make mini pond habitats around the garden. Our tadpoles have turned into amazing frogs and we keep finding them hopping around the garden in various places trying to get away from our cats.

We decided to make four mini hiding pools for them between the two main ponds. Hopefully they will use them to jump in and hide while going from one pond to the other to see their friends and family.

Baby Pumpkin

Back in early spring the Wonderful Wanderers sowed some pumpkin seeds, which they collected from last year’s crop. The winner of the first to grow goes to Martha, who’s pumpkin is now the size of an egg.

We are looking forward to a bumper crop so that in October we can carve them for Halloween. Tracie will try and persuade everyone to taste a homemade pumpkin pie.

Watch this space to see how we do and find out if anyone was brave enough to try the pie!

June’s Walk Around the Garden

On our walk around the garden, Leo and Jacey couldn’t pass the Strawberries without having their fill! We found lots of purple flowers. We found Sweet Peas, Foxglove, Alliums and Ice Plant, they were all very fragrant.

The yellow flowers all shone out like the sunshine. Tracie told us all about the different ways to use flowers. Tracie told us some go into medicine like St Johns Wort, some keep bugs away from our tomatoes like Marigolds and Field Mustard can be used in cooking. But we were warned we can only eat plants and flowers given to us by adults as some are poisonous like the foxglove.

In the front garden we found two delicious looking Cherries. Tracie said it’s good they where way up high on the tree as it would stop us picking them before she could have a taste! Look who we found hiding in the ferns! Our jolly gnome, Rainbow!

The pond is thriving at the moment with wildlife and flowers. The flowers like Hot Poker and Foxgloves attract mini beasts and bees to collect pollen to make us honey and pollenate other plants. Can you spot the Plant sign we made in March?

Water Play

We are having such lovely weather at the moment, however it is making the children very hot and bothered. Emma suggested we do an activity in the water to cool them down.

Martha and Ivor used the hand puppets to wash each other down to cool themselves. Alfred kept putting the toys into the pool and Bramble took them out for Alfred to put back in.

Martha asked if she could put the slide into the pool and slide into the water. By the time Emma put the baby down, Martha had moved the slide herself! Everyone watched her then joined in taking turns.
