Two years ago we decided to grow an avocado stone. The Little Seedlings tried the Avocado fruit. Only one out of five Seedlings liked it!
We had another go last year. This time we placed the stone into water using a special ‘Avoseedo’ tool. We waited for it to grow and after about nine weeks the stone started splitting.

About six weeks later, a small sprout appeared at the tip and roots began to form at the bottom. Two months went by… then the roots and shoots began to get stronger. In June, we planted the small tree into a pot with soil.

We were given another stone by our neighbour and decided to try growing that too. We now have two thriving trees.
On our walk around the garden today we found everything had turned to ice! Theo pointed to the spade and Fearne tried to pick it up. When we carefully moved the spade we saw it had left a print in the ice in the shape of a spade!

To Tracie and all your helpers, I can’t thank you all enough for the help and care you have given our son over the years. Dear Tracie, Thank you for taking such amazing care of both Martha and Ivor for years now! It makes me really sad to think of him not coming every week, but he is happy knowing he will get to come back “just like Martha does.” I am so grateful and feel so lucky to have had you there to make them both feel welcomed and happy and secure. While we were all out it the garden, the Little Seedlings kept trying to pick the pretty flowers. We made it into an activity by making some amazing flower prints on fabric and paper. First we got some cotton napkins, placed the flowers on one side and folded the napkin in half to cover the flowers. We all had fun bashing the napkin with a rolling pin.

After a few minutes, we opened up the napkin and carefully peeled off the squidgy flowers. The patterns made by the flowers were very pretty and printed on both sides of the napkin like a butterfly.

The children enjoyed this activity and extended it by mixing paints to make different colours, shades, prints.
Today is World Read Aloud Day and we wanted to show you some pictures of us reading and listening to stories. At Tracie’s Treasures, we have lots of different ways we read and have story time. We use iPads, computers, books, magazines, signs and much much more.

We all love having stories read to us and playing with puppets and toys to explore what the story really means and get involved. Tracie likes to take story sacks to the park and read to us using puppets.

Emma loves to use different voices for characters. We also listen to stories from Spotify on our Google Pebble or on story time CDs, theres lots of ways to read and listen to stories. But mostly! We love listening to our mummies and daddies reading to us at bedtime.
Today Emma made some personalised pictures for the Seedlings. She chose the first letter of their name and drew a picture of an animal or object with the same initial so we could colour or trace.

Emma has been encouraging the Seedlings to recognise and make marks to represent their names.
Today we made some lovely Hooting Valentine’s Day Owls for our loved ones. While we were making the owls we talked about who we love, Georgia shouted “I love you, Tracie” and Tracie explained it made her feel happy knowing that. We talked about how we all love each other, because we are a childminding family.

Fearne said “I love my mummy because I do”, then Georgia said “my daddy is my best friend.” When we asked Theo who he loved he didn’t make a peep. So Emma asked “do you love Mummy? Daddy? Pearl?” When Emma got to Thomas, Theo giggled out loud! We revisited the emotions we covered in an activity last week to explain how we express ourselves. Here are some of the finished Hooting Owls!
